Gunmen Storms University In Benue State, Kill Senior Lecturer

The University of Mkar, Mkar (UMM), Benue state was thrown into shock and mourning yesterday, August 11 when unknown gunmen stormed the university community and assassinated a senior lecturer.

 Mr Wilfred Aondosoo Tondo, a senior lecturer in the department of political science of the school, was murdered in front of his family members.

 The assassins were said to have stormed Tondo’s residence about 4:30a.m. and headed straight to his living room where he and his family members were observing early morning devotion.

They shot the lecturer dead. Tondo, it was learnt, was also a chairmanship aspirant in Buruku local government area of the state fueling concerns that the killing may have been politically motivated.

The university’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Suemo Shagba, confirmed the incident to New Telegraph, adding that  the lecturer was shot dead in his residence located in the university’s staff quarters.

 Shagba further said the lecturer was immediately rushed to the Benue state University Teaching Hospital where doctors confirmed him dead.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu, also confirmed Tondo’s murder. He said investigation surrounding circumstances of the murder has commenced.
