The incident happened on Saturday following a torrential rainfall which lasted for more than two days.
The flood also affected Lambata and Cheku communities in Niger State.
Our reporter, who visited some of the affected areas, observed that the flood submerged most houses while some built with mud bricks collapsed.
Also, some electric poles were pulled down, cutting off residents of Abattoir extension.
Some of the residents were seen scooping water out of the houses that were left standing.
Some residents filled sacks with sand to serve as make shift bridges to their houses.
A resident, Haruna Saidu, said he had relocated his family due to the flood which had destroyed his house.
Another resident, identified only as Adekunle whose house was submerged, said he had to pump the water out, and appealed to the council authorities to come to their aid.
The chairman of Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, expressed shock over the incident.
Alhaji Ajiya, who visited some of the residents, blamed some of them for building on the water ways and indiscriminately dumping refuse in drainages.
He said the council was making plans to construct good drainage system in the area as soon as its finance improved.
The chairman, however, warned those in the habit of building on water ways to desist, saying the Abattoir community had always witnessed havoc every rainy season.
