Feature Story: Community Service In Their Own Little Way

The Agro-allied Community Development Service group of NYSC in Abuja recently discovered a primary school in Katse community of  gwagwalada area council which has only 1 block that contains 3 classrooms for primary 1-3, and a detached room which serves as primary 4 classroom and also an ECWA church because the building belongs to the church.

These classrooms are not floored, without ceiling boards and most importantly lack seats thereby making the students all seat on the floor to learn.

The Community Development Service group  took it upon themselves to finance the making of 30 pieces of furniture for this school.

The group took trip to katse community to officially handover their little service to the people of the area.

The highlights of the trip included the two hour drive from the city center to the nearest community then crossing a stream and a bridge on foot then getting in a pickup truck to convey them to Katse community.

Corps members being entertained
They received a warm welcome from the students of the school and members of the community. The students of the school were most appreciative of this kind gesture and made dance presentations to entertain the corps members.

Reception in honour of the CDS group
In addition to the furniture, the CDS group also made provision for a medication such as worm expellers and they also provided quick snacks. More Photos Below...
